Clinical Haematology, Medical Oncology, Stem Cell Transplantation

Dr Bashford graduated from the University of Queensland in 1980 with a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (Hons1), and completed Post-Graduate in Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane and The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.

In 1992 Dr Bashford commenced practice in Medical Oncology and Clinical Haematology at The Wesley and Mater Private Hospitals. He became a Director of The Wesley Clinic for Haematology and Oncology and Wesley Clinic Research Centre and was closely involved in the commissioning of the Mater Private Centre for Haematology and Oncology in 1996. He negotiated Medicare funding for Stem Cell Transplantation in 1996 and has been Director of the Wesley Hospital Stem Cell Transplant Laboratory and Programme since that time. He was Chairman of HOCA from 2001-2006 and remains on the Board of the HOCA Research Centre.

Dr Bashford practises at the Wesley and Mater Private Hospitals, consulting and treating Day Patients at the HOCA Clinics of these campuses. His external referred practice is now limited to Lymphoma, Leukemia, and Multiple Myeloma. He remains an active member of the Breast Cancer and Sarcoma services at these hospitals. He offers a tertiary referred Stem Cell Transplant service at the Wesley Hospital Transplant Unit. He is involved in many Clinical Research and National Advisory roles in these areas.

Dr Bashford is a Foundation Member and current President of The Private Cancer Physicians of Australia (PCPA) Limited which is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the improvement of the health system for all cancer patients, but particularly for private cancer patients in Australia. He is particularly committed to the development of Under and Post-Graduate Medical Training in Private Hospitals and is a Clinical Tutor at The Wesley Hospital.
