Dr James Morton

Consultant Clinical Haematologist / Oncologist

Dr Morton was born in Brisbane and received MBBS from University of Queensland in 1987 (University Gold Medal).  He completed general internal medicine training in 1991 before undertaking specialist training in Clinical Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at the Royal Brisbane and Mater Hospitals (1992-1995). From 1996 - 1997 Dr Morton was the International Fellow at the prestigious Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre, Seattle.

In 1998 Dr Morton returned to Australia as Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane. Dr Morton’s particular clinical interests include Leukaemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Stem Cell Transplantation, and Clinical Apheresis. He has published widely in these fields.

Dr Morton joined Haematology & Oncology Clinics of Australasia in 1997 and practices from the Mater Private Centre for Haematology & Oncology and North Brisbane Cancer Centre (Chermside).

Dr Morton is an accredited Specialist at the Mater Private, Greenslopes, and Royal Brisbane and Woman’s Hospitals in Brisbane, attends St Andrew’s and St Vincent’s Private Hospitals in Toowoomba, and consults regularly at Chermside.

Dr Morton’s philanthropic interests include:

  • Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland - Dr Morton was a Board Member from 2000 - 2008, creating and initiating the World’s Greatest Shave for a Cure
  • AEIOU Foundation - which provides specialised early childhood programs for children for Autism, and was established by Dr Morton and his wife Louise in 2004 as a result of their own personal experiences in raising a child with this condition.
