| Clare - Clinical Nurse, HOCA @ Mater |
|
‘We came to Brisbane from the UK in March 2008, and I started working for HOCA part time in February 2009. When my husband later lost his job and his sponsored visa, HOCA arranged to sponsor me to work for them for four years. They arranged it all, and that has allowed us to stay. We are very grateful. I had previously worked in cancer care in Northampton, England for 10 years. It’s a lot busier here, but that’s a good thing. HOCA recognised my experience and I’ve recently been promoted to the role of Level 2 Clinical Nurse, which involves, among other things, preceptoring new staff and students. They really look after new people well, and help them to learn the ropes with plenty of support. I enjoy the work because it is so varied. I work full time now, and love it. Everyone is very friendly. The staff gets on well. And they are very helpful with home/work balance, allowing me to fit my work in around family commitments. HOCA also encourages us to keep our nursing practice current. They provide lots of in-house training, as well as access to outside education. I’m really happy to be working for them’. |
